Allene Rankin Hickman Castle (1935-2005)

Allene Rankin Hickman Castle, age 70, of Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Ashland, Ky., and Ironton, Ohio, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, in Cape Fear Hospital in Fayetteville.

She was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Lawrence County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Samuel and Vicie Middleton Rankin.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Lloyd Castle, in 2002; two brothers, Chester Rankin and Samuel Rankin Jr.; and a grandson, Michael Salisbury.

She was a homemaker, a Baptist and a former employee of Citti's Market in Ironton.

Surviving are a son, Zachary Hickman of Louisa, Ky.; two stepsons, David and Gregory Castle, both of Troy, Ohio; four daughters, Kathy Darby of Newport News, Va., Dorothea Hays of Collierville, Tenn., Allison James of Fayetteville and Adriene Castle of Ashland; two sisters, Pauline Keating of Ironton and Maxine Lentz of Damascus, Ohio; grandchildren Jamie-Lynn Matthews, Jennifer Nicole Hays, Meagan Ryan Hays, Jessica Michelle Castle, Tanner David Allen James and Logan Hale James; and six great-grandchildren, Michael Dezmond Salisbury, Hannah, Ethan, Katelyn and Madison Matthews and Mason David Hays.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 17, 2005, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky., by Dr. Floyd Paris.

There will be no visitation.

Steen Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
