--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roger E. Haney, 62, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 23, 1943, in Flatwoods, Ky., a son of the late Ronnie C. and Gladys Riggs Haney.
He was a retired AK Steel employee and a member of Flatwoods Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Nancy Miller Haney of Ashland; three daughters, Kimberly Camp of Culloden, W.Va., Angela Francis of Ashland and Tara Deerfield and her husband, Jason, who was a special son-in-law, of Rush, Ky.; two brothers, Darrell Haney of Bellefonte, Ky., and Gary Haney of Flatwoods; three sisters, Janice Dooley of Russell, Ky., and Lisa Childers and Carol Gillian, both of Flatwoods; and four precious grandchildren, Carly and Christopher Camp of Culloden, Alexis Francis of Ashland and Landen Deerfield of Rush.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Clara Miller, and a host of family and friends.
He loved spending time with his wife, three girls and grandkids! His greatest joy was when he was outdoors, especially on his tractor. He loved traveling with his family. Any man can be a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad. He was a very kind, gentle and humble man. He instilled the best morals and values in his children and grandchildren. His spirit will live in them forever.

Dear Nancy and all your family. Having spent some time at your home and around your family, I saw right away a very strong love and bond between you all. I know that Roger loved you all so very much, you could see that in every one of you. Also, in the pictures I saw, I could see the love and fun times you all had. You all have some precious memories to hang on to. Talking does help and if any one of you need someone to talk to, just call me and I will listen. Just knowing that Roger was a Christian, and that God loves him more than anyone, will help get you through. God will lift you up and help you through this. I know there are a lot of unanswered questions, but one day in heaven you will get all your answers, for God is the only one that has the answers. I love you Nancy and please take care and if I can do anything, let me know.

Nancy, Kim, Angie and Tara, I love you all so much. My brother was such a wonderful, kind man. He was the most like our dad, from the way he walked to the way he talked to even how he drove his tractor. Our circle of 6 brothers and sisters has been broken. The only comfort is knowing that Roger is no longer in pain and is in heaven with Mother & Daddy. I'm sure they were so happy to see "Pretty Rog" as Mother called him. We are all in so much pain right now, but even through the pain we have been able to share our wonderful stories & memories of Roger. He will forever be in our hearts. Love, Lisa

To my beloved Dad:
Daddy, The grief we are all feeling right now is overwhelming. What a shock and tragedy this has all been for us. We have so many questions that may never be answered. But one thing that you must know is that we are a strong, tight family that will stick together through this. That is one of the things that you taught us, to be strong no matter what life might throw at you. We have some really tough times ahead. But don't worry, Daddy, we will get through them. We know you are up in heaven watching over us. We will take care of Mom and each other. We won't let you down. It is so hard not to be selfish and want you back with us. We would give anything to have you back with us, ANYTHING. But God had a different plan for you. He wanted to take all of your pain and suffering away. Now, you are happy like you have never been before. Thank you, God, for giving us the best dad we could ever hope for and for giving me 36 years with a man who was my idol and will forever be my idol. You are loved by so many people, Daddy. Alexis really looked up to you. There was no one like her precious Pappy. She will love you forever, too. She will always treasure the special times with you, like tractor and 4-wheeler rides, going to the zoo and to Gatlinburg, and so many others. I will never forget all of the special times I had with you. You taught me everything, from eating an ice cream cone, riding a bike, riding a horse, learning to drive, etc. You were always there for me, in good times and bad. No one was as kind, gentle, humble, honest, and hard-working as you. You also had a sense of humor that we just loved about you. We have been thinking about some of the funny things that you used to say. It helps us to get through. You taught me the best morals and values. I will instill those in Alexis. Your spirit will live on in all of us. We will talk to you every day and remember all of the special times we had together. We will visit you often. You will know what is going on in our lives. We will take care of each other and maybe one day find peace. We will be so joyous when we meet in heaven. The Haney's will be back together again. (Remember "The Haney Compound", ha, ha). I bet Mammy and Papaw are really happy to see you. Daddy, we will love you always and forever. (That's what Alexis Hope always says) Until we meet again in heaven,
Love Always,
Angela Sue &
Alexis Hope

Dear Nancy,Kim,Angie and Tara:
I am so saddened over the loss of my brother, your husband and father. Roger and I spent so much time together as children and teenagers working and enjoying each other. He was never a slacker and never complained of any job that was assigned to him. He never spoke ill of anyone and was always willing to help any one in need.
Rest assured that he now is in heaven and will not have to suffer any longer. Grieve with me, knowing that God will help us all through this.
Love, Darrell

Dear Nancy and Family,
We have lost a dear person and a good friend. I attend school with Roger and we graduated together. We lived about two blocks apart and I saw him nearly everyday. We were scouts together and had some fun times. He as so shy but he had a very nice smile. Having moved out of the area when I was 20, I didn't get to see some of my old buddies as often as I would like, but Roger was one of the special guys to me. I will miss him at reunions and when I come to town.
