Franklin E. Williams, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Dec. 4, 2005, in King's Daughters Medical Center.

He was born March 1, 1922, in Johnstown, Pa., a son of the late Franklin E. and Kathryn V. Langsford Williams.

He was retired from Armco Steel Corp. in 1985 after 37 years of service, served with the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, attended Normal Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of Penn State.

Surviving are his wife, Romilda Bishop Williams of Ashland; a son, Christopher Williams of Flatwoods, Ky.; a daughter, Janna Smith of Chicago; two sisters, Jane Shirk of Raleigh, N.C., and Rebecca Daugherty of Kittanning, Pa.; grandchildren Melissa Williams Haywood and her husband, Andrew, of Port Hueneme, Calif., and Sarah Smith and her fiance, Tim Morano, of Westmont, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Haywood, Alana Morano and Susannah Morano.

A private funeral service will be Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, by the Rev. Susan Alley. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

There is no visitation.

Friends may make contributions to the Salvation Army, 2212 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
