Jesse Bowling, age 87, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, in Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Mr. Bowling was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Blaine, Ky., a son of the late Willie C. and Zora Ward Bowling.
He was retired from the electrical construction department of Armco. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran who was the first to volunteer on Dec. 8, 1941, in Huntington, W.Va., after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a member of Ashland Elks B.P.O.E. No. 350, and the Eagles in New Boston, Ohio, was one of the founding members of the Blue Ribbon Fox Hunters Association and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department of Pedro, Ohio.
Mr. Bowling was also preceded in death by a brother Jeddie Bowling.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Spears Bowling of Wheelersburg; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cummings and her husband, Charles of Wheelersburg; two brothers, Paul Bowling and his wife, Dorothy of Westwood, Ky., and Hollie Bowling and his wife, Betty of Lexington, Ky.; five sisters, Beulah Kazee of Cannonsburg, Ky., Gertalene McDowell of Summit, Ky., Edna Sexton of Winchester, Ohio, Gladys Brown and her husband, John of Columbus, Ohio, and Perlina Clarkston Frye of Cannonsburg; a stepgrandson, Kelly Cummings of Marietta, Ohio; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Madison Cummings of Dawson Springs, Ky.
A graveside service will be at noon Sunday at Bowling Family Cemetery on Music Branch Road by Pastor Danny Ray Clarkston.
