Earmlie Gamble Archey, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 3, 2008 after a long illness.
Born August 1, 1933 in Hitchins, Kentucky, she was the beloved youngest child of William J. Jimmie Gamble and Stella Jackson Gamble. She graduated from Thomas R. Brown High School class of 1951. Earmlies stories of her childhood adventures and misadventures were well known and greatly enjoyed by her family.
On July 3, 1954, she married Fred L. Archey, her husband of 40 years and the love of her life. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1995. She counted her greatest life accomplishment as being a devoted and loving wife and mother. Together, she and her family embarked on numerous vacation trips throughout the United States and several foreign countries.
Earmlie was a devout Christian and an inspired church worker. For many years, she was a Sunday School teacher and was heavily involved with Vacation Bible School. She also became a volunteer at Camp Caleb near Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
She was a talented seamstress, who sewed everything from wedding gowns to prize winning quilts. She was a creative crafter. Family and friends all highly prized the hand crafted items they received from her, especially the Christmas ornaments. Earmlie also happily taught others how they too could make things of beauty. She was truly an inspiration to all.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons; US Navy Captain Richard Archey, wife Wilma and their son Jeremy; Mark Archey, wife Hsiao Feng and children Matthew, Sharon, Charlotte, and Timothy of Taipei, Taiwan; one sister, Delores Tommy Baker and husband William of Ashland, Kentucky; one brother, Donald Bood Gamble and his wife Dorothy Midge of Frenchburg, Kentucky; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Archey, of Washington, Gene T. Archey and James Archey, both of Greenup, KY; and one sister-in-law, Anna Hill, of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families, all of whom she loved as much as if they were her own children.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by the doctors and other healthcare professionals during Earmlies long illness. They are also appreciative of her friends and church family who were always there for her.
