Earmlie Gamble Archey Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1933 - 2008

Earmlie Gamble Archey Earmlie Gamble Archey, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 3, 2008 after a long illness.

Born August 1, 1933 in Hitchins, Kentucky, she was the beloved youngest child of William J. Jimmie Gamble and Stella Jackson Gamble. She graduated from Thomas R. Brown High School class of 1951. Earmlies stories of her childhood adventures and misadventures were well known and greatly enjoyed by her family.

On July 3, 1954, she married Fred L. Archey, her husband of 40 years and the love of her life. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1995. She counted her greatest life accomplishment as being a devoted and loving wife and mother. Together, she and her family embarked on numerous vacation trips throughout the United States and several foreign countries.

Earmlie was a devout Christian and an inspired church worker. For many years, she was a Sunday School teacher and was heavily involved with Vacation Bible School. She also became a volunteer at Camp Caleb near Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

She was a talented seamstress, who sewed everything from wedding gowns to prize winning quilts. She was a creative crafter. Family and friends all highly prized the hand crafted items they received from her, especially the Christmas ornaments. Earmlie also happily taught others how they too could make things of beauty. She was truly an inspiration to all.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons; US Navy Captain Richard Archey, wife Wilma and their son Jeremy; Mark Archey, wife Hsiao Feng and children Matthew, Sharon, Charlotte, and Timothy of Taipei, Taiwan; one sister, Delores Tommy Baker and husband William of Ashland, Kentucky; one brother, Donald Bood Gamble and his wife Dorothy Midge of Frenchburg, Kentucky; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Archey, of Washington, Gene T. Archey and James Archey, both of Greenup, KY; and one sister-in-law, Anna Hill, of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families, all of whom she loved as much as if they were her own children.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by the doctors and other healthcare professionals during Earmlies long illness. They are also appreciative of her friends and church family who were always there for her.

The funeral will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at New Buckley Road Free Will Baptist Church with Reverends Bill Smith, Charles Powers, and Kenny Ball officiating. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens

Family will receive friends and visitors from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel, and at the church from noon till service time Tuesday

.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Camp Caleb, checks can be mailed to 804 James St., Flatwoods, KY 41139.

I will miss seeing Earmlie's smile. Whenever I saw her, she was so friendly to me. I remember the Archeys from church and mom and dad (Ervin and Erma)still talk about them fondly.

Dear Rich, Mark and families, I'm so sorry to hear of Earm's death. She is truly one of the sweetest people I have EVER known. Logan conveyed information from time to time about her health as well as your whereabouts and families. All of you are in my prayers during this difficult time. It will be an honor remember Earm through a memorial to Camp Caleb. You will always be "family" to me. --Love, Becky

Earma, was a great neighbor. Our Children grew up together, and we will allways remember her and Fred, sitting on the porch, most every Sunday Evening before Church time.

Earmlie was a wonderful human. She showed great love and compassion to everyone she knew. Even while she was ill at KDMC, she worried about how I was feeling. She has helped to teach me not only the word of God, but strength. She will be truely missed. She will forever leave a wonderful impression on my life. My condolences are offered to the family of such a wonderful person.

We are sorry to hear of your loss. Erma will be missed by us also. We spent many years together at New Buckley Road FWB Church. She and Fred were just wonderful people to be around. Erma and my mother worked together as teachers in the church and worked together at Camp Caleb. We have so many great memories that we could go on forever. We will be praying for your family and keep our memories of Erma forever near to us. Love, Kelly & Justin Bluebaum

To Earmalee's family; Lots of good memories from childhood, high school and Sandy City Baptist Church where our Mom Clemence Maynard was our Sunday school teacher. Have kept in touch with our good friend Numa Lee Conley over the years and kept me informed. Sorry for your loss and we know she at peace now.

We live on Crestwood Court in Flatwoods and got to know Bro. & Sis. Archey when we first moved here in 1984. Our daughter Susan loved Sis. Archey as she would do crafts for the kids on the street.
