Jo Ann Carhart - 1929-2009

Jo Ann Carhart, age 79, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Monday morning, Jan. 26, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born June 1, 1929, in Ashland, Ky., a daughter of the late Cecil Hudgens and Helen Hatcher Goodwin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Chester Carhart who died in 1989; a son, Michael Carhart; and a brother, Homer E. Goodwin.

She was a retired teller with 2nd National Bank, a member of Cannonsburg Baptist Church and past president of Gone to Pieces Quilt Club and Wildwood Quilters.

Surviving are a son, Mark G. Carhart and wife, Rita, of Ashland; a daughter, Carla A. Carhart of Catlettsburg; a daughter-in-law, Maguanna Carhart-Qualls; a brother, Jack C. Goodwin of Ashland; a sister, Linda Miller of Flatwoods, Ky.; two grandsons, Joseph and Dustin Carhart and a great-grandson, Griffin E. Carhart.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Mike Blankenship. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland, KY 41101 or Trooper Island Camp, P.O. Box 473, Albany, KY 42602.

Mark, I doubt you remember me. I think we worked together many, many years ago at South Ashland Greenhouse. I was just in school then. I want to offer my deepest condolence for your mother's passing. I often remember those fun times at the greenhouse and wonder where everyone is these days. Hope all is well with you.
