Gladys Evelyn Franz (1921-2009)
Gladys Evelyn Franz, age 87, of Ashland, Ky., died Feb. 1, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Ironton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Carl and Daisy Heaberlin Gibson.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl C. Gibson; and sisters, Pauline Beals and her husband, Roy, and Effie Mae Barber and her husband, Elzie.
She was the first Civil Defense director of Boyd County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and Ladies Lion Club, was an Ashland Welcome hostess and past P.T.A president at various public schools in Ashland.
Surviving are two sons, William R. Franz and wife, Linda, and David W. Franz and wife, Cindy, both of Ashland; two daughters, Janet Franz Short of Titusville, Fla., and Jerrye L. Franz of Ashland; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Gene Pillow. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
