Betty Ann Hardeman Rucker (1939-2010)

Betty Ann Hardeman Rucker, 70, of Summit, Ky., died Wednesday evening, Jan. 6, 2010, at her residence.

She was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Lewis County, Ky., a daughter of Myrtle Hutchinson Hardeman of Summit and the late Charles Hardeman.

She was also preceded in death by husbands Donald Lee Davis in 1968 and Wilbur A. Rucker in 1989; a stepson, Shawn Rucker; a brother, Glendall Hardeman; a brother-in-law, Stuart Nolen; and a nephew, Tony Hardeman.

She was a retired registered nurse in the surgical department at Kings Daughters Medical Center. She was a member of Summit Missionary Baptist Church, where she volunteered in the Clothes Closet. She was a graduate of the UK Nursing Program and a member of the Boyd County Homemakers. She loved reading, gardening and being outdoors. She gave tirelessly of herself in taking care of her family and friends whenever the needs arose.

Additional survivors include sons Sam (Rosanna) Davis of Summit and Bryan Scott (Monique) Davis of Little Rock, Wash.; stepson Michael Rucker; brothers Bob (Lois) Hardeman of Kentucky, Charles (Patti) Hardeman of Illinois, Larry (Trish) Hardeman of Indiana and Roger (Carolyn) Hardeman, Bill (Wanda) Hardeman, Jack (Kaye) Hardeman, Keith (Tammy) Hardeman and Delbert (Doris) Hardeman, all of Kentucky; sisters Sheila (Stan) Terry of Kentucky, Bonnie Nolen of Ohio and Dawn Hardeman of Kentucky; and a special angel and grandson, Samuel Damian Davis. She is also survived by many, many nieces, nephews and special friends who were very dear to her.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Pastor Kevin Meenach. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery in Lewis County.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at the funeral home.
