Robert E. Bob McCroskey (1933-2010)

Robert E. Bob McCroskey, 76, of Ashland, Ky., died March 19, 2010, in Kings Daughters Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1933, in Lee County, Ky., to the late William McCroskey and Mildred VanMatre McCroskey. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Helen Howell McCroskey of Ashland.

He worked at Petroleum Exploration in Lee County, worked several years as a barber and retired from AK Steel in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. He was also a member of Beech Street Christian Church where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin McCroskey; and two sisters, Margaret Goff and Marcielle Combs.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Amy Wills and her husband Matthew of Lexington, Ky.; a grandson, Ridley Wills; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home - 13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Minister Ken Vaughn. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at the funeral home chapel.

Contributions may be made to Beech Street Christian Church, Family Life Center, 1672 Beech Street, Ashland, KY 41102 or a charity of their choice.

We miss Bob very much and he lived his life as an example for us. He is an angel now, watching over us, his family and friends. He gives us a reason to live a Christian life so we can see him in heaven. We love you, Bob.
