1945 - 2013

John G. Hardin, 68, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 24, 2013, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.

He was born Jan. 28, 1945, in Louisa, a son of the late Thomas Harvey and Briza J. Conley Hardin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Cyrus.

John was a 1962 graduate of Ashland High School and received his bachelor's degree from Morehead State University. He was a longtime member of Fred Gross Masonic Lodge 953 F&AM and was of the Methodist faith.

He retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy and later went on to teach and retire from the Ashland Vocational School, after 18 years of service.

Survivors include his loving wife, Rechilda Pili Hardin of Ashland; daughters, Braiza Redman and husband, Daniel, of Florence, Bernadith Mirando and Josephine Aquino and husband Rudy, of California; sister, Janet Stephens Ward of Ashland; and five grandchildren, Isaac, Alexis and Gianna Redman and Ian and Nicole Aquino.

A masonic service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, by the Fred Gross Masonic Lodge 953, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County, where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.
