1914-2002
James Andrew Lawson, 87, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Lawson was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Ashland, a son of the late Asberry Jacob and Jessie Jarrell Lawson.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Wurts Lawson.
He was retired from North American Refractories Brickyard. He was of the Methodist faith, was a Kentucky colonel, was an Army sergeant during World War II, where he received several medals and flew air barrage balloons for the Army, and attended Ashland City Schools.
Surviving are two sons, Franklin ``Andy" Lawson of Kitts Hill, Ohio, and Jimmy ``Tom" Lawson of Flatwoods, Ky.; a daughter, Sandra James Lawson Miller of Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Kristine Miller and Anessa Jo Lawson.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Jimmy Cremeans. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post #93.
