John Wesley Mahan, 84, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
Mr. Mahan was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Oil Springs, Ky., a son of the late Charles and Clara Witten Mahan.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles D. Mahan and Ben F. Mahan; and a sister, Agnes Petrie.
He was former owner of Kentucky Electric Supply and a former employee of Ben Williamson.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Ashland, where he formerly taught the Crusaders and Builders Sunday school classes, and was former chairman of the board of trustees. He was past president and a member of Ashland Kiwanis Club, was a former member of Ashland School Board and Kentucky Council on Aging, and was a consultant for the Small Business Association.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Curry Mahan; a brother, Robert Mahan of La Canada, Calif.; and a sister, Carol Sanchez of St. Louis, Mo.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum by the Rev. Wayne Watts. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight, Aug. 23, 2002, at Steen Funeral Home-Ashland Chapel.
