Ersel Sparks, 78, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland following a brief illness.
Mr. Sparks was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Lawrence County, Ky., a son of the late Walter Sr. and Sara Hay Sparks.
He was retired from Armco Steel, was a blast furnace burner, and was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Opal Martin Sparks of Ashland; a son, Larry Sparks of Ashland; two daughters, Darlene Sparks and Kathy Charlene Bowling, both of Ashland; a brother, Donald Sparks of Ashland; a sister, Sylvia Sparks of Grayson, Ky.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Rose Hill Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. Phillip Zimmerman and the Rev. D.C. Chambers. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland.
