Virgil L. Conn Jr., 53, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Conn was born March 3, 1948, in Ashland, a son of the late Virgil Lee Sr. and Lucille Cook Conn.
He was a paramedic with EMS. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, was of the Primative Baptist faith, was a member of the Boyd County Paramedics Association and a 24-year member of the Boyd County Emergency Ambulance Service. He received the Distinguished Service Award from King's Daughters Medical Center and was a Kentucky colonel.
Surviving are his wife, Glenda Wellman Conn; two sons, Virgil Lee Conn III of Ashland and John Wesley Conn of Pendleton, Ore.; two stepsons, Jonathan Wellman of Winchester, Ky., and Michael Wellman of Lexington, Ky.; a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Conn of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Paul Conn and Kenneth Conn, both of Ashland, and Larry Conn of Columbus, Ohio; four sisters, Rosalie Halley and Barbara Faye Dale, both of Ashland, Goldie Spaulding of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, and Betty Barker of Scottown, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Conn.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Dr. Charles Stewart and the Rev. Kenneth Conn. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 10, from 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
