Maude K. Lilly

1925 - 2013

Maude Katherine Lilly, 87, of Wurtland, lay aside her earthly vessel and found healing in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

She was born August 1, 1925 in Hinton, WV. In addition to her parents and grandparents she was preceded in death by the love of her life (her husband of 61 years) Orace Lilly, a new born son James and her sister Pansey Clinebell.

She is survived by three loving and devoted sons, Earnest (Jo Ann) Meador of Beeville, TX, David (Paula) Lilly of Lloyd, and the Reverend Mark (Sue) Lilly of Wurtland. Four grandchildren, Debra(John) Woodard of Corpus Christi, TX, Danielle (Michael) Kyle of Louisville, Jennifer (Nathan) Riley of Campbellsville, Jonathan Lilly of Wurtland and 10 great grandchildren.

Maude was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker in the truest sense of the word. The trials and tribulations she endured in her childhood helped forge the strength, resolve, and determination that made up her character. The words quit or give up were not in her vocabulary, instead she improvised and overcame many obstacles in her life. She could fix a leaky faucet or change out a light switch as quick as she could whip up a delicious meal. She was a seamstress that turned out beautiful and colorful clothing and if she couldnt find shoes to match in a local store, no problem she would dye a pair she already had with the matching color. Maude was never able to complete her education but possessed a doctorate in common sense. Those that knew and loved her could testify to her wit, compassion, and sense of humor. She was a Kentucky colonel who would have gone far in the actual military.

Maude knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and actively served him through the local church. During the course of her Christian walk she was a faithful member of the Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Worthington, Grace Baptist in Flatwoods, and First Baptist Church of Russell where her current membership resides.

Maude told her pastor (the Reverend Ken Gowin) that she didnt want him to preach any sad funeral sermon. She wanted a service that celebrated her life and allowed those who knew her to have the opportunity to rejoice that she was now in the presence of the Lord and be given the opportunity to share their favorite memories of her.

The family would like to acknowledge their gratefulness and thanks to Clarence Walker, (a neighbor of their mother) who helped do a lot of chores around the house and yard for her as her health declined. Maude was a long time friend of his mother and after her death Clarence began to call her mom. They also acknowledge with thankfulness the care Maude received from the hands of the physicians and especially the nursing staff on the cardiovascular floor of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital during her hospitalization. All through her final hours the sincere compassion and empathy they poured out on the family members gathered around her bed felt like Maudes warm fleece blanket that she had brought from home.

In lieu of flowers Maude requested that donations be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, Russell-P.O. Box U, Russell, KY 41169

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church, Russell, Kentucky from 6-9 pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2013 and one hour before the funeral home Wednesday. The funeral will be at 11 am on Wednesday May 22 also at the church. Burial will be at the Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd.
