1923 - 2013

Gene Thurman Archey, 89, of Greenup, KY passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home. Mr. Archey was born September 15, 1923 in Greenup, Kentucky a son of the late Ollie Pete and Noma Stephenson Archey.

He was retired from Armco Steel in Ashland, Kentucky.

He was a lifelong, humble, and devoted servant to his community of Greenup.

He was a former mayor of Greenup where he served three terms and also served on the Greenup City Council for 25+ years.

He was a former President of the Greenup County Park Board and was a long time Park Board Member.

Mr. Archey was also a former Lions Club President, Vice President, and Board of Directors.

He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow International Foundation for dedicated humanitarian services.

He was active in the Civilian Conservation Corp.

He was an United States Army World War II Combat Veteran.

He was in the 82nd Airborne Division where he was a paratrooper and demolition specialist.

He loved to hunt, fish, and play sports. He played ball until his late 60s.

Mr. Archey was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by

Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Pastor Glenn Stephenson. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 - 9:00 pm and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
