1924 - 2013
The Rev. Homer Estill Adkins, 89, of Lloyd, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 30, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Adkins was born February 17, 1924, in South Shore, Kentucky a son if the late Edward and Linea Cox Adkins.
Homer retired as pastor of Smith Branch Church of God in Greenup after 43 years. He was a U.S Army World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific. He was
a member of Freedom Worship Church of God in a Greenup. As a young man, He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps to help support his family. He loved to coon hunt, fish and garden. He was a devoted and loving husband who loved and cared for his family.
He served the Lord faithfully and is with him in heaven.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Adkins and Richard Burl Adkins; two sisters, Opal Davis and Irene Gifford; and one granddaughter, Amanda Mullins.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Evelene Barney Adkins; two daughters, Wanda (Lemuel) Mullins of Lloyd and Linda (Wayne) Stephenson of Greenup; one brother, Russell Earl (Garnet) Adkins of Lloyd; Four grandchildren, Robin (Tom) Wilson, Buzz (Sheena) Riley, Kenneth (Christy) Reed and Melinda (Scott) Lanham; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and many friends who will greatly miss him.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 pm Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Freedom Worship Church of God in Greenup by Bishop Kevin Witt and Bishop Hyden Curnutt. Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd. Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm Thursday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
