Hannah Elam Click for Condolences      Printable Version 1933 - 2014 Hannah Elam 1933 - 2014 Hannah Elam, 81, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of West Liberty, KY departed this life, Thursday, December 18, 2014 in Hospice of the Bluegrass Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Mrs. Elam was born May 29, 1933 in Raceland, Kentucky a daughter of the late Edward Simon and Cynthia Bentley Truitt. In 1952, she graduated from the Western Union School in Crawfordsville, IN and operated Tie Lines in Portsmouth, Ohio, Ashland, KY and Kingsport, TN. She was present backstage during the Dwight D. Eisenhowers speech at the Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, KY while working to file reporters stories. She was a longtime resident of West Liberty, KY where she helped operate Elam Chevrolet, Inc. with her husband. She was a past president of the Morgan County Womens Club and past member of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by Her husband Edward P. Elam 5 brother Alfred Truitt Arthur Truitt Moody Truitt Marshall Truitt Otis Truitt 4 sisters Elsie Fann Sylvia Sexton Pearlie Underwood Ogia Truitt She is survived by 1 daughter Carol (David) Elam Eades Fishers, IN 1 son James Edward (Kimberly) Elam West Liberty, KY 1 brother Charles (Shirley) Truitt Middletown, IN 5 grandchildren 1. Aaron Eades 2. Laura Eades 3. Max Elam 4. Sarah Elam 5. Emily Elam 31 special nieces and nephews Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday, December 22, 2014 at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Bro. Mark Campbell and Bro. Gary Allen. Burial will be in the Quillen Cemetery, Lynn, Kentucky. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.reedfuneralhome.us

Hannah was very special to Fred and me. We looked forward to our visits every year to see her. She was one of the sweetest, kindest and strongest women I have ever known. I never heard her complain or speak badly of anyone. She will be greatly missed. As I stood among the bare trees and inhaled deeply I contemplated all the ways our lives become uniquely empty when a loved one passes on. How we create these testaments to make sure the world understands how deeply loved those closest to us were. It is this one particular piece of a persons life that most people want remembered above all else: that they were loved. Anonymous author

My family has lost our beloved Aunt Hannah. She is the last sister on my fathers side. My memories of her were always special. When I was younger our family would spend Christmas at my grandparents in Raceland, Kentucky. Aunt Hannah was always bubbling with excitement. As I got older, Laverna and I would visit her and Uncle Ed at their home in Lexington, Kentucky. We shared family stories, looked at pictures, and talked about our children and grandchildren. Over the past few years, I did not see her as often I would like and had hoped to see her before Christmas this yearher passing came too soon. This week she completed her time on earth and I feel the loss of her passing. I will miss her smile and laugh. I will miss the way she said my name, it made me feel that I was special to her. Aunt Hannah selflessly met the needs of Uncle Ed and her family. She was always excited about what was happening in our family. She was a bringer of joy. As I think about her today, I think I know what she would say to me, Love your family, Larry. Times are rough, but enjoy the people and life that you have been givenits a gift. I have always loved her. The passing of Aunt Hannah only reminds me that life is short and we should make the most of the time we have been given. Even though Aunt Hannah will be missed, there is something very appropriate about her departure, even as the author of Ecclesiastes indicated, "There is a time to be born, and a time to die-Ecclesiastes 3:2. It is appropriate because she had lived out a full complete life. She had accepted the love of her children and her nieces and nephews. One person said: "There is nothing more certain than death and nothing unsure than life." Life in these bodies and life on this earth is temporal! Aunt Hannah is now in the final resting place; yet her death leaves a vacancy in our lives that no one can replace. Aunt Hannah will be missed but her memory will live on.
