Raymond S. Kerr, age 89, of Columbus, died Thursday November 14, 2002 at Doctors West Hospital in Columbus. Born March 8, 1913 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Curtis M. and Della Steger Kerr. In addition to his parents he was preceded by two sisters Carrie Black and Hazel Kerr, by a brother who died in infancy and by his long time companion Virgie Stepp.
Raymond was a retired employee of the Army Depot in Columbus. He was a World War II Army Veteran, where he served in the Military Police. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking and was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Survivors include: a Brother in law, Addison H. Black of Orient, two Nephews, David (Ardith) Black and Donald (Jodi) Black both of Orient, three Great Nieces, Ashley, Andrea, and Brittany Black, one Great Nephew, Clinton Black, by Special Friends, Ralph and Genny Slone of Columbus, and by serveral Cousins.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Monday November 18, 2002 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home 810 Second Ave. Gallipolis. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 until the time of service. There will also be a visitation on Sunday November 17, 2002 from 2-4 PM. at the Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel 3030 West Broad Street Columbus. Military funeral honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Organizations.
