Robert 'Bobby' Morris Casey left this life August 25, 2003 at Holzer Hospital. Bobby was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on January 31, 1920, and was the son of the late John Milton Casey and Hattie Thompson Casey.
He attended Gallia Academy High School and after graduating in 1944, joined the U.S. Army's 316th Port Company and was the recipient of three bronze stars for his service in World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge, Bobby graduated from Poro Barber College in Indianapolis, Indiana.
On February 19, 1946, he married Dorothy M. Singer, and of this union were born five children: William D. Casey (wife Tommye), Philadelphia, PA, Hattie C. Stokes, of Uppper Marlboro, MD, Roberta M. Casey, of Columbus, Ohio, Cynthia L. Casey (deceased), and Morris A. Casey (wife Cara) of Bidwell, Ohio.
He was employed by Frye's One Hour Cleaners and Duke Cleaners for thirty seven years, was the custodian of St. Peter's Episcopal Church for thirty-four years and was a self-employed barber for over 50 years.
Besides his loving wife Dorothy and four surviving children, he leaves behind seven surviving grandchildren: Eryn W. Casey, Casy M. Dennis, Max Mm. Dennis, Lauren R. Casey, Carmen M. Stokes, Kia C. Casey, and Kyle A. Casey. Camille M. Stokes preceded him in death. Bobby also had a great granddaughter, Nia Camille Dennis. He also leaves to mourn a host of brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a myriad of friends.
Robert Morris Casey was the youngest brother of ten children, all deaceased except one brother Paul Casey (wife Julia) of Columbus, Ohio.
Bobby was a lifetime member of John Gee A.M.E. Church of Gallipolis. Since its closing in 1998, he attended Paint Creek Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and co-founder of the John Gee Black Historical Center.
Perhap's, Robert Casey's most active interest and chief concern were the well-being of his family. He had an infinite capacity for compassion and understanding for PEOPLE.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday August 28, 2003 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Rev. James Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-9 P.M. Military funeral honors will be presented at the graveside by the Gallia County Veterans Organizations.
