Lawrence S. Akers, age 85, of Gallipolis, 'Went to be with the Lord' on Friday October 24, 2003 at Holzer Medical Center. Born July 24, 1918 in Fort Gay, W.V. He was the son of the late William David and Rebeca Frances Bartram Akers. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife Gladys Marguerite Porter Akers, by a daughter Joyce Wedemeyer, and by 1 brother and 4 sisters.
He was a retired engineer from the AC and F Corp. in Huntington and a World War II Army Veteran. He was a member of the United Brethren Church in Huntington.
He is survived by: Daughter: Regina Akers of Gallipolis; Son In Law: Marlin Wedemeyer of Gallipolis; 3 Granddaughters: Lisa (David) Burleson of Gallipolis, Amy Wedemeyer of Gallipolis, and Shari (Tom) Wooten of Muriel's Inlet, S.C.; 1 Great Grandson: Lawrence Wedemeyer of Gallipolis; Sister: Virginia (John) Wellman of Medmay.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday October 28, 2003 at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood home on Monday from 6-9 P.M. and at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to services. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Organizations. Pall Bearers: Bill Venters, Leroy McCoy, David Burleson, Tom Wooten, Randy Callihan, and Brent Davies.
