Charles Glen Grate, age 70, of Patriot, died Wednesday November 5, 2003 at his residence. Born September 17, 1933 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Willard A. and Magdalene E. Kiser Grate.
Charles retired from Kaiser Aluminum where he worked as a crane operator. He was a United State Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Patriot Masonic Lodge #496, and he attended Salem Baptist Church.
He is survived by Wife: Donna Jean Baisden Grate; Son: Keith (Jacqueline) Grate of Patriot; Daughter: Grace Jean (Charles) Judy of Columbis, Missouri; 5 Grandchildren: Natalie, Cole, Landon, Callie, and Kacie; 3 Sisters: Donna Jean McDaniel of Gifford, Illinois, Betty Elaine (William) Warren of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Debra Lynn (Tim) Burnette of Gallipolis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday November 9, 2003 at Salem Baptist Church, with Pastors Ron Nicholas and Bill Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home on Saturday from 6-9 P.M. and one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday. Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home by Patriot Masonic Lodge #496. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Organizations.
Pallbearers will be: Landon Grate, Cole Miller, Louis Bush, Donnie Bush, John McDaniel, Bradon Burette, Sherman Baisden, and Blaine Warren. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jeff Wells, Tom Cooper, Billy Carter, Bob Lewis, Clarence Myers, and William Gregory.
