Hayward D. "Grey Beard" Sheets, age 86, of Gallipolis, died Wednesday April 24, 2004 at Holzer Medical Center. Born on January 31, 1918 in Northup, Ohio, the son of the late Dent E. Sheets and Nettie E. Saunders Sheets. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a sister Noval Philips and two brothers: Herbert and Melvin Sheets.
He married Doris J. Gates on January 31, 1950 in Gallipolis. He was a WWII Veteran and served in the Army. He retired from Gallipolis Developmental Center and was a member of Northup Baptist Church.
He is survived by: Wife: Doris J. Gates Sheets of Gallipolis; 2 Daughters: Kathy (Mike) Nibert of Gallipolis Ferry, WV and Susie (JR) Bays of South Side, WV; 1 Son: Richard Sheets of Columbus; 3 Grandchildren: Jessie Nibert, Travis and Mikaela Bays; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday April 25, 2004 at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Unroe officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral hom from 6-9 P.M. on Saturday April 24, 2004. Full Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Organizations.
