Charlotte Virginia 'Jennie' Clarke, age 87, of Crown City and formerly of Brandon, Florida was 'Ushered into the presence of the Lord' Friday morning March 4, 2005 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. Born January 11, 1918 in Huntington, she was the daughter of the late Claude V. and Grace Mae Cornell Swann. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband Herman V. Clarke who she married June 5, 1938 at the Highlawn Baptist Church in Huntington and who preceded her on May 9, 1981. Also preceding her were a brother Claude E. Swann and a sister Beulah May Swann.
Mrs Clarke worked as a secretary in the West Virginia Capitol Building, she also formerly worked as a secretary at the Housing Authority in Huntington, and at the Credit Bureau in Gallipolis. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, and after moving to Florida was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Brandon, Florida. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Huntington. In Florida she volunteered at the Medical Center in Brandon, and was awarded her 30 year volunteer pin.
She is survived by 1 Daughter: Claudia Ann (Max) Haffelt of Crown City; 1 Grandson: Tim (Jennie) Haffelt of Kissimmee, FL; 2 Great Grandchildren: Tyler and Jenna Haffelt of Kissimmee, FL; 1 Niece: Leah (William) Schoonover of Gallipolis; 2 Nephews: Edward and Joseph Swann both of Florida; 1 Great Niece: Kim (Jonathon) VanSickle of Gallipolis; 1 Great Great Niece: Andrea VanSickle of Gallipolis; and 1 Great Great Nephew: Jonathon VanSickle of Gallipolis.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday March 7, 2005 at Victory Baptist Church with Pastors Jim Lusher and Berkely Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Victory Cemetery. Mrs. Clarke will lie in state at the church on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until time of service.
