Sylvan H. Gardner, age 91, of Gallipolis, died Wednesday evening March 23, 2005 at Holzer Senior Care Center. Born January 13, 1914 in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late Captain Sylvan Goodridge Gardner and the late Caroline Handley Gardner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife: Ferne Abbott Gardner, by 3 Sisters: Hester Igleheart, Mary G. Stormont, and Louise Sando, and by 2 Brothers: Nelson Gardner and Columbus Gordon "Jack' Gardner.
He is survived by 2 Sisters: Jane Lanier of Berea, KY and Avalon (Lew) Roush of Gallipolis, and by a Sister in Law: Evelyn Abbott of NC.
Sylvan retired as a Supervisor from the Columbus Southern Electric Co. He was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107, and of Morning Dawn Lodge #7 F&AM. He also a member of serveral other Masonic Orders. He will long be remembered as a true gentleman.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday March 28, 2005 at the Chapel of Hope at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. In keeping with Sylvan's request, there will be no visitation.
