Edward 'Ted' Phillips, age 83, of Crown City, died Tuesday afternoon April 26, 2005 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Born October 4, 1921 in Gallia County (the Bladen Community) he was the son of the late Jack and Nellie Shriver Phillips. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife Shirley A. Drake Phillips who he married on November 22, 1948 in Catletsburg, KY. and who preceded him on December 30, 1997. He was also preceded by a son Steven Edward Phillips, by a brother Andrew Phillips, and by a sister, Goldie Northup.
Edward was a World War II Veteran having served in the Army Air Corp. He was a retired operating engineer for the IUOE #132 out of Charleston, WV. He was a member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, and attended the Christ United Methodist Church.
He is survived by 3 Sons: Gary Alan Phillips of Gallipolis, Jerry Lee (Linda) Phillips of Crown City, and Terry Scott (Denise) Phillips of Crown City; 4 Grandchildren: Aaron Scott Phillips, Terry Austin Phillips, Adam Jacob Phillips, and Braedon Drake Phillips; A Special Friend: Bettilu Gooldin of Crown City.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday April 30, 2005 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Pastor Kandy Nuce officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-9 P.M. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Organizations. Pallbearers will be: Monte Garrabrant, Jack Northup Jr., Ronnie Phillips Sr., Ron Hammond, Bill Hunter, Dave Spurlock, and Scott Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Gooldin, Calvin Waugh and Chester Crews.
