Francis Homer Johnson, age 87, of Gallipolis, died Sunday October 30, 2005 at Holzer Medical Center. Born September 15, 1918 in Clay Township, Gallia County, he was the son of the late Robert and Debbie Chick Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a brother, Forrest Johnson.
Francis was a World War II Army Veteran. After returning from service in 1946 he purchased the Puritan Market, which he operated for the next 21 years. After selling the market he went to work at the Gallipolis Developmental Center from which he retired in 1983. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He survived by: Wife: Lelia Gilkison Johnson who he married on December 24, 1940 in Gallipolis; Daughter: Judy (Francis) Burdell of Bidwell; 4 Grandchildren: Jill (Todd) Breyfogle of Thurman, David Burdell of Bidwell, Brad (Lynn) Burdell of Palmdale, CA, and Harold (Robin) Burdell of Warren, MI; 7 Great Grandchildren: Jacob Breyfogle, Tina, Tylina, and Austin Burdell, Evan, Brandon, and Dustin Burdell; Sister in law: Marguerite Johnson of Gallipolis; 4 Nieces: Mary Lou (Harry) Fellure of Gallipolis, Betty Meadows of Gallipolis, Wanda Johnson Ladensky of Columbus, and Donna Johnson Sims of Columbus.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday November 2, 2005 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Bob Fulton officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans organizations. Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
