1907 - 2005

Mary Gertrude Bane Evans, age 97, of Gallipolis, died Sunday November 26, 2005 at the home of her daughter. Born December 27, 1907 in Clay Township, Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Wilson Bane and the late Nettie Lucretia Allbright Bane. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband James Wilford Evans, 3 brothers: Charles M., Maurice W., and Garette E. Bane; 1 sister: Virginia E. Bane Trout, a son: Charles Dean Evans, and a great grandchild, Garrison Ray Baker.

She was a 1927 graduate of Gallia Academy High School, she attended Bliss College, and Rio Grande College. She taught in Green Township (Oak Grove and Centenary Schools, both one room schools) and at Washington Elementary School. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she volunteered as pianist, organist, Sunday School Teacher, and youth leader at Ohio Chapel Church. She was also a 4-H advisor to the Wide Awake Club.

She is survived by: 1 Son: Jerry (Ruth Ann) Evans of Gallipolis, 2 Daughters: Phyllis Jean (Paul D.) Niday of Gallipolis and Joyce Anne (Paul) Watters of Mt. Vernorn; 8 Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Step Grandchildren; 2 Sister in laws: Virginia Evans Hoyt of Pomeroy, and Virginia Bane of Morehead City, NC; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday December 3, 2005 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Kandy Nuce officiating. Burail will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to services. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. At the families request, contributions should be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 9688 St. Rt. 7 South Gallipolis, Ohio 45631, or to the charity or organization of your choice.

Dear Family - please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We have heard many "FUN FILLED" stories of Grandma Evans. I think the best one is still of her putting her feet in the ocean last summer. Love and prayers to your entire family during this time of sorrow. Connie Nick and Tracy
