John D. McKean, age 92, of Gallipolis, died Sunday evening December 25, 2005 at Holzer Medical Center. Born November 1, 1913 in Providence, (Gallia County), he was the son of the late Charles M. and Nora Porter McKean. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Garnet Haskins McKean, by 1 sister, Reta Sheets, by 3 brothers, Marcus, Porter, and Stanley McKean, and by a grandson, Joshua McKean.
John was a farmer and retired businessman. He started the Quaker State Service Center in 1945, and in 1952 he and his wife built and opened the William Ann Motel which they operated for 46 years.
During World War II he served in the United States Navy, serving with the Sea Bees.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a 50 year member of Morning Dawn Lodge #7. He was also a member of VFW #4464.
He is survived by:
1 Daughter: Martha (Jay) Brown of Gallipolis
1 Son: Charles (Barb) McKean of Gallipolis
5 Grandchildren, 1 Step Grandchild, and 5 Great Grandchildren.

Lucille Hagerty of Middleport
Juanita (Leon) Saunders of Gallipolis.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday December 30, 2005 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Alvis Pollard officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-9 PM.
Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jeremiah McKean, Adam Clark, Colin McKean, John McKean, Brent Saunders, Ron Saunders, and Danny Merrill McKean.
