Eugene H. Gloss, age 81, of Gallipolis, died Thursday evening January 12, 2006 at his residence. He was born on May 1, 1924 in Long Island, New York. He was the son of the late Eugene Edward and Bertha Agnes Jones Gloss. In addition , by a son, Robert Paul Gloss, and by a sister, Joan Marie Chermaak.
Gene served as an Honor Guard in the Boy Scouts when the Queen of England visited New York World Fair in 1938. During World War II he served in the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant Navigator aboard a B24. In 1948 he graduated from Lehigh University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. His career moved him to Windham, then Shadyside and then to Follansbee, WV. The following year he moved to Springfield, OH. In 1954 he moved to Gallipolis, and Gene started work at the Kyger Creek Plant. In 1970 he was promoted to plant manager. He retired in 1989.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a member of the Session and as an Ordained Elder.
He was a Charter member and Past President of the Gallipolis Lions Club, a board member of the French Art Colony, Past Chairman of Boy Scout Troup 200, member of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), member of the Morning Dawn Lodge #7, and a supporter of the Ariel Theatre. Mr. Gloss was an ardent supporter of the University of Rio Grande School of Nursing, where he established the Jean Gloss Nursing Scholarship and the Paul Dovyak Alumni Scholarship. He also funded a computer lab at the nursing center, and established and endowment fund to maintain the lab.

Funeral services will 11:00 AM Monday January 16, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. VanHorn officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Organizations.
Lions Memorial Service will be at 4:00 PM. Sunday at the Funeral Home. Masonic Services will be 8:30 PM. Sunday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to either the Frist Presbyterian Church or to the American Heart Association.
