Hester Craig "Nana" Gooldin, 86, of Crown City died on December 31, 2002 at Holzer Senior Care Center. Born on August 5, 1916 in Ohio Township, Gallia County, daughter of the late Arthur Craig and Dora Elkins Craig. She married John W. Gooldin on November 12, 1938 in Jackson, Ohio. She was a wife, mother and homemaker who moved with her husband and children anywhere her husband's job with Dravo Corp. transferred them. She was an excellent seamstress who also enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She liked to travel and was an avid reader. She was baptized into the Baptist Faith on Mother's Day, 1932 and was a member of the French City Baptist Church at the time of her death.
In additon to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John, on October 28, 1976; a sister, Hazel A. Taylor on May 9, 2002; a brother, Joseph W. Craig killed in World War II on Novwember 26, 1943; five infant brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a daughter, Bettilu Gooldin of Crown City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ruth & Jerry Gooldin of Columbus, Ohio and Cheryl & John Gooldin of Clearwater, Fla; granddaughter, Lennie Gooldin of Gallipolis; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Halley of Dayton, Ohio and Marjorie Green of Crown City, Ohio; serveral nieces and nephews including James & Martha Gooldin, Mt. Sterling, Ohio; and Harold (Grip) & June Kemper of Bidwell, Ohio. She is also survived by her special family at Holzer Senior Care Center.
Services will be conducted at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Saturday January 4, 2003 with Rev. Ralph Workman officiating. Burial will be in Swan Creek Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday January 3, 2003.
Pallbearers will be Harold Kemper, Edward Phillips, Eddie Fife, Gary Phillips, Jamie Davis, and Chester Crews. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Gooldin, Ray Wedemeyer, and Ralph Dowling-Fitzpatrick.
