Dear Linda and Dave -- Please remind Matt and Katie that they were first and foremost in Oleta's conversations with others. She enjoyed sharing stories -- my favorite is the one about Matt and the parking tickets. How lucky they were to have a grandmother who was so attentive and able to stay connected to them (she loved the grand-baby calendars) right to the end of her life. Linda -- you'll remember that my friend Barb (from Erie) and I stayed with Oleta a few times recently when we traveled to the Greenbrier. Barb says -- and I agree -- that Oleta was such a wonderful role model about how to age gracefully. She was so mentally alert and so interested in others -- that she was a joy to be around. She was always sharing a recipe or making sure we had enough to eat. We'll miss her so much. For me, it won't be the same to go to Gallipolis -- and the old neighborhood. What a treat to have had a neighbor and a friend for so many years. For the past several years -- during my visits to see my mom -- I chose spending evenings with Oleta (after my Mom had gone to bed) rather than visiting with friends my own age. We loved her dearly -- and know she returned those feelings.
