Darlene Avanelle (Miller) Rutt, passed from this life on Tuesday September 12, 2006 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Darlene was born February 17, 1931 in Lawrence County, daughter of the late Thomas Cecil and Nellie Gray (Wood) Miller.
She worked many years for her parents at the Old Gallia Store.
Darlene married August Ernest Rutt on September 20, 1951 and he preceded her on July 9, 1989. Together they raised two daughters who survive, Renda Kaye (Danny) Brown and there children, Daniel Ray Brown, Brandi Lea Brown, and Dreama Leigh (Stuart) Lentz and there children, Cameron Douglas Lentz, Oliver Myles Lentz, and Theodore Avery Lentz.
Darlene was one of nine children born to Cecil and Nellie Miller, and four siblings precede her, Vernon Leroy Miller, Thelma Louise Jaynes, Donald Hayden Miller, and Clayton Cecil Miller.
Four brothers survive, Oscar Brian Miller, Arnold Edward Miller, Robert Eugene Miller, and Ronald Allen Miller.
Darlene is also survived by her uncle, Adam (Eleanor) Wood, one brother in law, several sisters in law, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss her very much. A beloved nephew Jeff Janney was especially close to her heart.
Darlene spent her entire life in Gallia County. She took great pride in caring for her home, helping her husband run the farm, and was well known for her delicious cooking and baking.
After her husband Junior passed away Darlene volunteered for many years as a Senior companion at the Gallipolis Developmental Center. Where she was much loved.
Darlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Friday September 15, 2006 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral Home 810 2nd. Ave. Gallipolis with Rev. Gary Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Cemetery in Cadmus. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 PM.
