Edith Jane Davis, age 81, of Gallipolis, died Thursday January 30, 2003 at University Hospital in Columbus. Born August 11, 1921 in Gallia County, daughter of the late Thomas and Marie Grube Jones. In addition to her parents she was preceded by one daughter Mary Annette Davis.
Edith was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in Gallia, Jackson, and Pickaway Counties, she retired after teaching almost 30 years. She was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church, and the Gallia County Retired Teachers Association.
She married James Ray Davis on May 16, 1942 in Gallia County who survives along with a daughter, Betty (David) Bowman of Jackson, a son, Wendell Davis of Gallipolis, four grandchildren, Jennifer (Walter) Lewis of Williamsport, David K. (Willa) Bowman of Jackson, Jeremy Davis of Jackson, and Jamie (Stacy) Davis of Patriot. Three Great Granddaughters, one Great Grandson, along with several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday February 2, 2003 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home 810 Second Ave. Gallipolis, with Rev. Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Neal Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday form 6-8 P.M.
