Ruby, Donna and Kathy, I am so sorry about the passing of Uncle Byron. I know how much he was loved by all of you and he has left behind a huge void. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Since Jamie called me late on Thursday and told me the news, I have been thinking about both Byron and Dad. When I was young---and especially when I lived at home---dad and I were always butting heads. Now that I am older, I understand that I was simply immature and didn’t appreciate the good qualities of my father. I now know he was a very good straightforward man. He loved us. We could depend on him. And he wanted to be appreciated and loved in return. I also know he loved his brother Bryon. In many ways, time has allowed me to appreciate how much Byron (and you too, Ruby) thought me as part of your family. And like dad, is a very good honest man who loved us. All I hope is that Byron knew I felt the same way about him. I am very sorry I cannot be with you at this time. Getting a flight over the holiday (that arrives in time to pay my respects at the funeral home on Saturday) was next to impossible. I am just too far away in Minneapolis to drive. I will call when things settle down and hopefully make it to Kentucky soon to see you all in person. With much love, Paul Queen
