Lucia (Lucy) Mae Rice, a lifelong resident of Carter County, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, June 7th, 2003 at Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Mrs. Rice was born on September 6th, 1913.

Mrs. Rice retired several years ago as President and co-owner of Young and Damron, Inc., a well-known appliance retail store in Grayson, Kentucky. Mrs. Rice was active in many civic clubs and organizations including the Grayson Younger Women’s Club, and The Grayson Garden Club. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, Chapter 10 in Grayson. For many years, Mrs. Rice taught Sunday school at the Christian Church in Grayson and was a loved and long-time member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.

Her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Reid and Chloe Waggoner Damron, her brother Donald and Wayne Damron, her first husband, Donald Maurice Young and her late husband of 41 years, Dewey Clarence Rice, preceded her in death.

Two daughters, Alice Kaye Rawlings of Portsmouth, Ohio and Donna W. Alexander of Springboro, Ohio, a sister, Betty Reid Balsinger of Venice, Florida, two stepsons, Dewey Rice, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada and James Rice of Flatwoods, Kentucky, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren survive Mrs. Rice.

Visitation will be at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, KY on Tuesday, June 10th from 6:00 to 8:00pm. On Wednesday, June 11th there will be one hour of visitation from 10:00 to 11:00am at the Oak Grove Church of Christ with the service following at 11:00am. Dr. Donald Damron will be officiating. Interment will be at the Grayson Memorial Park in Grayson immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Grove Church of Christ, 1525 Damron Branch, Grayson, KY 41143.
