While conducting research at East TN State University, I came across the announcement on John's passing. Although nearly four years have passed, could you please see that that the family receives my condolences? The Pemberton family was the first family I met when my family and I arrived on the mission field in Rhodesia in Jan. 1964. I have often thought of everyone and their kindness to us. I stayed in the Pemberton house in '69 while visiting Mashoko when I was a teenager. My last trip to Africa was in 2001. Sincerely, Pamela Courtney (daughter of Tom and Fran Courtney)

Dearest Pemberton family, We just recently returned from vacation not knowing of your loss (Heaven's gain). My family and I thought so much of yours since we lived next to the parsonage at that time (I wasn't even born when you left for Africa). As our little church supported the mission, I will never forget when John and Marge would visit. There was always such excitement!!! Getting to listen to one of John's messages was truely an inspiring thing let alone to hear Marge play guitar and sing like a bird. What gifts God gave you both! I remember Pam's wedding to George...Mom (Sadie Stamper) and I attended and cried throught the whole thing when Pam stopped to give her mother a rose as she walked toward George. It was one of the most touching ceremonies I have attended. Having gone on medical mission trips as an RN, I realize the sacrifices you made together in order to spread the gospel. Some people just can't grasp how difficult it can be but when everything you do is to glorify the Lord...nothing is tough or impossible nor will it compare to the sacrifice He made for us. I pray the Lord will lift your hearts during tough hours ahead. It is human to be selfish even when we know they are with our Savior...it is what we are all striving for...we just want to take as many with us as we can. John's work will not stop for he has so many to carry on the good fight in his place. He left quite a legacy....and a very special family! Blessings to all, Jeannie Susan
