Martha E. Matney, age 80, formerly of Ashland, KY, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Church Lane Senior Care in Broomall, PA.

She was born in Ashland on Nov. 13, 1923, a daughter of the late Andrew and Nellie Geyer Thomas.

Martha was a devoted lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland. She was a legal secretary for the late Sam Fred Kibbey, her brother-in-law, in Grayson, KY.

She was also preceded in death by husband, James Kentnor Matney in 1954, five brothers, Ernest, Walter, William (Bill), Robert (Bob) and George Thomas, and four sisters, Mary Louise (Betsy) VanHoose, Helen Malone, Ruth Hooper and Edith Kibbey.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Barbara Anderson of Wallingford, PA, her son-in-law, Paul Anderson, granddaughters, Laura and Hayley Anderson, sister, Kathryn Black of Shepherd, MI, brother, Ralph Thomas and wife, Mary of Owensboro, KY and sister-in-law, Geneva Thomas of Albany, KY. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson on Thursday, Feb. 26th, at 12:00 noon with funeral services following at 2:00pm. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 27, at noon.

Barbara, I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. You may not remember me, but I remember going to elementary school with you. I have often wondered about you. God bless you.
