
Van Buren Gibson Jr., 98 of Iron Hill, KY died Monday, March 14, 2005 in Kings Daughters Medical Center, following a sudden illness.
He was born July 31, 1906, at Grayson KY, a son of the late Van Buren Sr. and Eliza James Gibson. He was a husband for 73 years to the late Myrtle Lee Tison Gibson.
He was a farmer most of his life; he helped build roads and bridges a few years when he was young. He was an elder of the Iron Hill church of Christ for over 50 years. He was a member of the Carter County Farm bureau Board of Directors for numerous years; on September 27, 1982, he was declared an honorary lifetime member of the Board due to his years of support and contribution of much time, energy and personal talents to better the organization for all of its members. He lived to see six-5th generations with one of them being five generations of Gibson men. He devoted his life to his family, church and farm.
His survivors include: one daughter, Flora Gibson McDavid of Grayson; one son, James F. Gibson and his wife, Patty of Greenup KY; a great nephew whom he raised, Phillip Caskey and his wife Debbie of Russell KY; six grandchildren, Reeva and Chuck Whitaker of Salyersville KY, Belinda and Tom Baker of Greenup KY, Doug and Trish Gibson of Lexington KY, Don and Kim Gibson of South Shore KY, David and Kim Gibson of Argillite KY and Ramona and Allen Bellew of Grayson; 16 great-grandchildren, Jeanna and Steve Sammons, Kevin and Melissa Whitaker, Tracy and Wendy Baker, Tara and Jason Clark; Courtney and Rob Williams, Jeremy Gibson, Jason Gibson; Ryan and Carrie Gibson, Kyle and Jessie Gibson, Kelli Gibson; Rachel Gibson, Bridget Gibson, Boone Gibson; Vanessa and Jeremy Rogers, Andrea Bellew and Kaitlyn Bellew; and six great-great-grandchildren, Raegan Sammons Lauryn Whitaker, Kendall and Cody Baker, Brady Clark, and Jonah Gibson.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; three sisters, Weltha Lundh, Mary Caskey and Flora Bush; two brothers, James and Dewey Gibson; a great-grandaughter, Laura Whitaker and son-in-law Ray E. McDavid.
Funeral services are to be conducted Friday, March 18, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Iron Hill Church of Christ, by Tim Stamper and Tim Ratcliff, ministers. Burial will be in the East Carter Co. Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held, Thursday, March 17, from 5 to 9p.m. at the Malone Funeral Home and also Friday after 12:00 noon at the church.
Pallbearers will be: Doug Gibson, Don Gibson, David Gibson, Chuck Whitaker, Tom Baker and Allen Bellew.
