Marian Maxine Nelson age 91 formerly of Greenville died Saturday Evening at Upjohn Community Care Center in Kalamazoo. She was born in Ionia MI on April 25,1913 the daughter of Peter and Mary Oakley Gilbert. She was married in Greenville on December 25 1931 to Howard F. Nelson. She was a member of Greenville First United Methodist Church, the Blue Star Mothers and will be remembered as a kind and caring person especially by her children and grandchildren whom enjoyed her cooking and baking and her devotion to family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, and also her brother Walter Gilbert and sister Ethlyn Lambertson. She is survived by her four children and families: son, Frank and Fay Nelson of Rockford , his children, Scott, Leslie and Bruce, and grandchildren Rebecca and Thomas, son, Wayne and Patti Nelson of Richland MI, his children , Marilee, Kristian and Katherine and grandchildren, Joseph, MariKatherine, and Margaret, son, James and Ruth Nelson of Twin Lake MI , his children Jason and Jennifer , daughter, Marilyn and Joe Thienes of Rockford , her children , Patrick and Thomas Grow, also Marian’s sister-in-law , Olive Gilbert of Grand Rapids. Funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday December 14, 2004 at 2 PM from Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville with her Pastor Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in South Sidney Cemetery, Sheridan. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at 1 PM prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church or Heritage Community of Kalamazoo – Alzheimer Unit.
