1926 - 2005
Dana Dale Hammond age 78 of Turk Lake, Greenville, went to be with his Lord on Saturday January 8, 2005 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born in Lansing MI on July 25, 1926 the son of Harold and Hazel Ruby Buck Hammond.
He was retired as shipping supervisor from General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Lansing, was a veteran of WW II serving in the Pacific Theater, a life member of the VFW, Perry Post and was an avid fisherman, hunter and member of the NRA .He married Gertrude Sancho in Manila, Philippine Islands on September 13, 1946.He was preceded in death by a brother.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gertrude of Greenville, his daughter Gloria (Don) Frayer of Ionia, his son Dan (Bing) Hammond of Ionia, his grandchildren, Daniel, Ariane, Jamie, Dan Jr., Brian H., Brian C. , Anna and Kristine , his great grandchildren, Jalene and Liv , his sister Dona Bechkhorn of Flint, his wife’s sisters and brothers, Stephen Sancho of Australia, Sylvia Zaballero, Sally Sancho and Samuel Sancho all of New Jersey and several nieces , nephews and cousins.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Wednesday January 12, 2005 at 12 o’clock Noon from Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with Father Phil Salmonowicz officiating. Burial will be in East Montcalm Cemetery, Greenville. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post # 101 Greenville. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In Lieu of Flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
