1915 - 2005

Grace H. Cairns Matice age 89 died Thursday January 6 2005 at her home in Retirement Village Grand Ledge MI. She was born in Greenville on July 19 1915 the daughter of Benjamin and Ella Christiansen Abbey. She lived most of her life in Greenville at the location of M-57 and Youngman Road .Grace was a graduate and a proud alumni of Greenville High School with the class of 1933. She was married to Ronald R. Cairns in Greenville on March 1 1935 and together they worked at the Federal Mogul Corp. for 30 years. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1974. She was a member of Greenville First United Methodist Church all her life belonging to the Lois Circle of the church and the Homemakers, also a former member of the Child Study Club and recently joined the Red Hat Society. On April 17,1977 she was married to Frank E. Matice of Fenwick, formerly of Muskegon. After 25 years of marriage they sold their home in Greenville for the new West Side developments and entered a retirement complex in Grand Ledge. He preceded her in death on March 17 , 2003.She was also preceded in death by her sister Betty. She is survived by her children; Dennis (Chris) Cairns of Spring Lake, Mi, Mary (Doug) Daniels of Lansing, Frank’s Son, Frank E. (Pamela) Matice III of Norton Shores, MI, her grandchildren; Ben (Katie) Cairns of Glen Ellyn IL, David (Michele) Cairns, Oak Park IL, Jason Daniels of Lansing, Abbey (Mark) Schaefer of Grand Ledge, Kevin (Fawn) Matice of Ft. Wayne IN and Kurt (Caroline) Matice of Fenwick, great grandchildren, Caroline, Devin, Leann, Jacob, Mark, Maxwell, Brennan, Kristina, Denise , Frank and Shawn, her aunt, Gay Christiansen , her brother in law Winston Cairns of Boulder CO and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Monday January 10 , 2005 at 1 PM at Greenville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in East Montcalm Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be on Monday at 12 Noon with the family at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Greenville First United Methodist Church, 204 W. Cass St. Greenville MI 48838. Hurst Funeral Home Greenville is serving the Cairns Matice Family.
