Josephine Queenie Houghton (Hutson) died Monday, March 28,2003. She was born March 13, 1940 in London, England to Cecil (Tom) and Queenie Hutson. Jo's family moved to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England and lived there until her marriage to Merlin Houghton on October 26, 1957. Merlin and Jo returned to Sheridan, Michigan upon Merlin's retirment from the Air Force in 1975. Merlin and Jo recently moved into a new home they had built together with the help of family and friends in Stanton. Jo was a homemaker who raised seven children, enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, knitting, and crafts. Jo was preceded in death by her father, Cecil (Tom) Hutson; her mother, Queenie Burgess; her stp-father, Peter Burgess. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Merlin Houghton of Stanton; her seven children, Dawn Dulyea of Rhome, TX, Dean and Kathy Houghton of Dickson, TX, Russell and Cheryl Houghton of Blanchard, MI, Dwayne and Dawn Houghton of Belmont, MI, Teresa and Jason Schultz of Ontonagon, MI, Douglas Houghton of Stanton, Margaret Houghton of Stanton, and Michelle and Christopher Parsons of Mason, MI; and 20 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Hurst Funeral Home in Greenville, Pastor Larry Nalett officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Jo's honor may be given to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265).
