1925 - 2005
Mary E. Carter, aged 79, of Greenville, died suddenly Friday, March 25, 2005 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus. She was born in Ionia on April 14, 1925 the daughter of Ernest and Edith Patrick Wakefield. Mary married her high school sweetheart in Greenville on December 25, 1943 and together they enjoyed a wonderful partnership. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Greenville and worked with her husband as owners of Greenville Construction Company. They loved camping and fishing and traveling together. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Norm and Fred Wakefield; her sisters, Hilda Hodgkins and Fran Heimbecker; and an infant son, Jerry. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harold "Scoot" Carter Jr. of Greenville; their sons, Tom and Nan Carter of Trufant, Bruce and Sherry Carter of Adrian; her grandchildren, Joy (Ken) Hayward, Gary (Lori) Carter, Jeff (Rebecca) Carter, Amanda and Darcy Schrieber, Emily (Nate) Harkness, Sarah (Matt) Higgins, Greg Carter and Mikayla Cater; great-granchildren, Joshua, Bethany, Nathan, Mitchell, Madison, Brayden, Natalie, and Wyatt; her daughter-in-law, Belinda Carter of Saline; brother-in-law, Albert (Janette) Heimbecker of Greenville; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Maurice) Coady of Portage, Eleanor (Charles) Haste; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 29, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Faith Baptist Church, Greenville with Pastors Robert Winter and Randy Williams officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visistation will be on Monday from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville.
