Frances Baumgras, age 83, formerly of Spencer Township, Kent County, died Tuesday February 1, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital, Grand Rapids. She was born in Cicero, Illinois on March 8, 1921 the daughter of Marion and Bertha Rosival Prymula. She married Philip S. Baumgras on June 19, 1943 in Allegan. Frances was a beauty shop owner in Mio, Michigan and was active in bowling, serving as an officer in the bowling association receiving many awards. She was a member of East Nelson United Methodist Church and loved music. She was currently a resident of Clark Retirement Community and sang in the Clark Choir. Frances was preceded ind death by her husband, Philip, on March 7, 1998, and also her parents and step-father, Edward Hansen, and her brother, Hank Prymula. She is survived by her children; Mary (Walter) Ridout of Cedar Springs, Janina Kay (David) Lewkowski, and Julie Ann (Max) Northouse, both of Grand Rapids, Lisa Marie (Larry) Hansen of Dorr, Carl Philip (Jan) Baumgras of Midland, and Edward Leon (Jeanette) Baumgras of Troy; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Janina (Earl) Rice of Gerald, Missouri; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wilson (Doris) Baumgras of Sebastopol, California, Marion Miller of Lansing, the former Ruth Baumgras of Arizona, and Elnora Prymula of Allegan and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. from East Nelson United Methodist Church with Rev. Herb Vanderbilt officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Mills Cemetery, Gowen. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributins may be given to East Nelson United Methodist Church.
