Elverson Clark RootElverson C. Root age 86 of Stanton died Wednesday August 31, 2005 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids MI. He was born on September 12,1918 the son of Elverson F. and Myrtle L. Eimer Root in Lakeview MI. He married Maudie J Reese in Greenville on October 25, 1941. Elverson was a veteran of WW II serving in the United States Marines where is participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands and in the occupation of China. He was employed for 22 years with the East Lansing Public Schools retiring in 1981. He was a member of the V.F.W. Cleveland - Wolverton Post # 3794 of Greenville serving as Post Commander and also served as V.F.W. 9th District Commander, a member of the American Legion Post in Stanton and the V.F.W. Post in Edmore. He was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maudie of Stanton, his children; Judy and Lewis Perkins of Stanton, James and Patricia Root of Spring Arbor and Rick and Sandra Root of Traverse City, his grandchildren, Ted and Jill Perkins, Scott Perkins and Jonathan Kirkendall, Steven Root, Laura and Peter Finley, Sarah and Bill Raitter and Cory Root, his great grandchildren, Katherine, Justin, Mackenzie, Jesse and Anya Marie, his sister Dora Lutterloh of Greenville and sisters in law, Geraldine and Ed Thome of Comstock Park and Pauline Vos of Greenville, several nieces and nephews and special friends, Hope White and George Sherman.

He was preceded in death by is grandson C.J. Root in 1994, his brothers, Elton, Lloyd and Arthur Root, his sisters, Reba Dickerson, Violet Abbey, Nona Lowery, Margery Yager, Mary Bromley, Effie Durdle and Dorothy Wright.

Following a private family visitation cremation will take place with a memorial service to be held on Wednesday September 7,2005 at 11 AM from St. Paul Episcopal Church with Rev. Father John Kirkman officiating. Inurnment will be in St Paul Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Paul Episcopal Church, 305 S. Clay St. Greenville
