1914 - 2005
F. Edwin O’Boyle passed away December 19 at Cook Hospice of Holland Home in Grand Rapids. He was born in Coral, Michigan on October 31, 1914, to Fred H. and Margaret (Chapple) O’Boyle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen (Lawton), infant daughter Edwina Jean and second wife Charlotte (Johnson Abrams). He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Robert Christensen of Greenville; granddaughter, Kathryn Helen of E. Lansing; grandson Robert Edwin and fiancée Stephanie Perry of Ann Arbor; and grandson James Christopher and wife Beth of London, Ohio. He is also survived by his stepson Robert Johnson and wife Nadine of Stanwood and step-grandchildren John and Jayne Johnson. Ed was a 1932 graduate of Greenville High School and one of the first young men in Greenville to achieve the Boy Scout Eagle Scout rank. After completing his teaching degree at Western Michigan University, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen, and taught in Alba and for several years in Muskegon. In 1955, he returned to Greenville to teach and manage the family ice company on Baldwin Lake. Ed taught music at Greenville Junior High School and special education at Greenville High School until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Greenville where he served on the church council. He also served on the City Planning Commission and Boy Scout Troop 130 Committee. Visitation will be held at Hurst Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Wednesday. His funeral service will be at 2 pm on Thursday, also at Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Jerrold T. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery , Greenville. Memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to the Flat River Community Library.
