Carl Larsen Speese Click for Condolences      Printable Version 1918 - 2006 Carl Speese age 87 of Gowen passed away January 25,2006 from emphysema at United Memorial Hospital Greenville Michigan. He was born August 22, 1918 the son of Clinton Speese and Effie Larsen Speese. For many years, he enjoyed working his family’s centennial farm. He served 4 years with the US Army in New Guinea and the Philippines during WW II. Carl retired from Federal-Mogul. In his later years, he made hundreds of quilt throws for the homeless, the VA Hospital and nursing homes. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Loretta Garrison Speese, and their six children; Carla and Ron Clock of Stanton, MI, Karen and Al Thorington, White Cloud,MI, Fritz and Vicki Speese , Palmetto, Florida, Candy Speese , Kalamazoo,MI, Connie and Robert Condra, Flushing, MI and Greg and Sigrid Speese , Cape Coral Florida and their 35 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Mindi Speese. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 PM to 3 PM at Hurst Funeral Home with a funeral service and committal at 3 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Frank Marsh of Spencer Mills Church officiating. Burial will be in East Montcalm Cemetery, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to the Emphysema Society or the Salvation Army

Loretta and Family. I am sorry for your time of sadness with the death of your husband and father. I do remember the days in the 1950's riding the school bus down your road to drop off the Speese and Petersen kids. You had a nice country neighborhood and our families enjoyed growing up in the Gowen area and coming to Bass Lake for a swim. Some good times and memories. I also know how important your family is to each other and sure respect how you get together. I remember you telling of getting hotel rooms and celebrating together. You are a special Wife Mom and Grandmother. Love from Mike and Barb Hurst.
