
Margaret Cordella Forton age 85 of Greenville died Sunday March 12, 2006 at Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus Long Term Care Unit. She was born in Muskegon on March 2, 1921 the daughter of Raymond and Penelope VerHoven McRae.
Margaret graduated from Montague High School lettering in basketball and worked at Neiman Marcus in Texas, at Continental Motors during WWII making tanks and at Greenville Jorgensen’s where she was known as the donut lady. She and her husband owned a chain of seven restaurants know as ‘Nibble a Scrib Nibs’in the greater Muskegon area from the 1940’s to 1960’s. She was a member of the Si Quaris Club in Greenville, did volunteer work at Meijer Gardens and United Memorial Hospital in Greenville.Margaret loved her family, gardening, reading and her dogs.
Her husband James J. Forton preceded her in death on April 5, 1965. She was also preceded by her grandsons Matthew Stauffer and Brian Stauffer and her sister Eleanor Cullum.
She is survived by her daughter Sherry and Gordon Stauffer of Gowen , her sons , James and Lonee Forton of Grand Rapids and Michael and Jill Forton of Lake Odessa, grandchildren; Kevin and Shanda Stauffer of Gowen, Tim and Nicki Stauffer of Grand Rapids, Brad and Jenny Stauffer of Greenville and Max Forton of Lake Odessa, great grandchildren, Sydney, Noah , Ian , Collin and Lauren Stauffer, her sister Marian Lamos of Muskegon and brother Frank McRae of Lacey Washington and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 15 2006 at 11 AM from Hurst Funeral Home with Pastor Raymond Gaylord officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Gifts in Margaret’s memory can be shared with the Brian L. Stauffer Memorial Scholarship fund of the Greenville Area Community Foundation
