1920 - 2006

John  Newell Jr. Abram Newell Jr. known as John Newell age 86 of Trufant died at home Wednesday June 21 2006. He was born in Trufant on May 15, 1920 the son of Abram N. and Helen Reynolds Newell and was married to Dorothy L. Rosebrock on July 10, 1939 in South Bend Indiana.

In 1949 his daughter Barbara age 8 and in 1999 his grandson John E. Newell age 27 preceded him in death and also his brothers Sidney Maurice and Arthur Ferdinand Newell preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of Coral High School with the class of 1937 and was a farmer all his life along with several years as an automobile salesman. He served as supervisor in Maple Valley Township, was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Trufant and of the National Farm Organization. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Dorothy, their children; Richard and Raquel Newell of Portage, Robert Newell, Ann and DuWayne Peer and Kenneth and Carrie all of Trufant, Cynthia and Gary LeBaron of Gowen and John and Michelle Newell of Howard City, 2 granddaughters, 11 grandsons, 3 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on MONDAY June 26, 2006 at 1PM at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Trufant with his pastor, Rev. Aaron I. Sorrels officiating. Burial will be in Coral Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to Visiting Nurse Hospice or St. Thomas Lutheran Church.
